Crisis Rocks ADC Congresses as Mark Faction Insists on Convention

A fresh crisis rocks ADC congresses as the faction loyal to former National Chairman, Chief Ralphs Okey Mark, insists on a full national convention, rejecting the congresses organized by the rival leadership.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), which recently celebrated a court victory that forced out embattled chairman Nafiu Bala, is now facing internal fragmentation. The Mark faction claims the congresses held across states were flawed, undemocratic, and designed to install loyalists of the current interim leadership.

“Crisis rocks ADC congresses as Mark faction insists on convention being the only legitimate path to elect new executives,” said Hon. Sunday Ezeh, a spokesperson for the group. “We will not recognize any congress that excludes majority of party faithful.”

In response, the ADC National Working Committee described the Mark faction’s position as “unfortunate and diversionary,” urging members to remain calm. Party spokesman, Mr. Tunde Adekunle, stated that the congresses followed due process and were monitored by INEC observers.

Political analysts warn that the deepening crisis could affect ADC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections. If both factions proceed with rival conventions, the party risks being disqualified from fielding candidates.

Efforts to broker a peace meeting between the warring groups have so far failed. Meanwhile, INEC has declined to comment, stating that it only recognizes leadership structures that comply with constitutional provisions.
