Mascot Uzor Kalu Rejects Alleged APC Endorsement Plot in Abia

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mascot Uzor Kalu, has strongly rejected what he described as a “kangaroo endorsement” allegedly being orchestrated by party stakeholders in Abia State.

In a press statement issued on April 12, 2026, Kalu alleged that a meeting convened in Umuahia under the guise of mobilizing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election was, in reality, a calculated attempt to impose a preferred aspirant on the party.

He warned that any form of consensus arrangement carried out without the involvement of all aspirants would be illegitimate and unacceptable, stressing that such moves undermine internal democracy. According to him, any attempt to impose a candidate would be met with strong resistance.

Kalu further cautioned the APC State Working Committee (SWC) against actions capable of damaging party unity and credibility, urging members to remain neutral and uphold fairness in the party’s processes. He emphasized that party executives are elected to serve the collective interest of members, not to promote individual ambitions.

Reaffirming his position, Kalu declared that he would not step down for any aspirant, insisting on his constitutional right to contest.

He also warned against participation in meetings allegedly convened to push personal agendas.

The development highlights growing tensions within the All Progressives Congress in Abia as the 2027 elections approach.
