The Nigerian Senate has formally commended President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and key agencies for their roles in securing Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List.
This commendation followed a motion by Senator Emmanuel Udende, who highlighted the coordinated efforts that led to this achievement. Nigeria’s delisting is a direct result of extensive reforms that strengthened its Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) framework.
The Senate noted that this milestone will boost investor confidence, reduce compliance burdens for financial institutions, and attract foreign direct investment. It urged continued vigilance to sustain the progress and prevent a relapse.
The move marks a significant enhancement of Nigeria’s reputation in the global financial system.
