MANCHESTER, England – Manchester United secured their third consecutive Premier League victory with an entertaining 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The match was highlighted by a long-awaited milestone for Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha, who opened the scoring with his first goal for the club since his £62.5 million summer transfer.
United started brightly and were rewarded in the 24th minute. Cunha received a pass on the edge of the area and fired a precise low shot into the far corner, finally breaking his scoring duck.
The lead was doubled before halftime by fellow Brazilian Casemiro, whose shot took a heavy deflection to wrong-foot Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
After the break, Bryan Mbeumo extended United’s advantage, calmly slotting home for his fourth goal of the season. Brighton mounted a late comeback attempt with goals from Danny Welbeck and Charalampos Kostoulas, creating a nervy finish.
However, Mbeumo sealed the victory in stoppage time, latching onto a Bruno Fernandes pass and firing in off the crossbar to complete his brace and secure a 4-2 win for manager Ruben Amorim’s resurgent side.
The result lifts Manchester United into the top four of the Premier League, marking their best run of form since February of last year
