NASHVILLE — Dolly Parton, the legendary country music singer, songwriter, actress, and philanthropist, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at her home in Nashville at the age of 80 .
Her family confirmed the news, with her nephew, Bryan Seaver, announcing her passing in a video statement shared on her social media accounts . “Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus,” Seaver said .
Parton’s death comes just months after she canceled a Las Vegas residency due to undisclosed health challenges and a little over a year after the passing of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Thomas Dean .
Born into poverty in a one-room cabin in the mountains of East Tennessee, Parton rose to become one of the best-selling and most influential artists in music history . Known for her powerful voice, poignant songwriting, and sparkling rhinestone outfits, she authored timeless hits like “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You” .
Beyond her music, Parton was a revered humanitarian, founding the Imagination Library, which has sent millions of free books to children worldwide . U.S. President Donald Trump ordered flags to be lowered in her honor .
