AWKA, NIGERIA – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three individuals, including an agent of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), for alleged vote buying during Saturday’s Anambra State governorship election.
According to a statement on the EFCC’s official Facebook page, the suspects were apprehended in various locations across the state. Emeka Ilokasia was arrested at Ward 2 in Njikoka Local Government Area, Nwachukwu Loretta at Ward 2(008) in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area, and Emuka Chuwudi at Umunachi village in Dunukofia Local Government Area.
The anti-graft agency stated that the suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded, underscoring the commission’s commitment to combating electoral malpractice.
The arrests come amid widespread reports of vote buying during the election, with major candidates previously raising concerns about the practice affecting the integrity of the electoral process.
As voting concluded across the state, election officials began collating results from local government areas, with substantial numbers already uploaded to INEC’s Result Viewing Portal.
