A bus driver and his conductor have been arrested after they allegedly snatched an AK-47 rifle from a police officer and knocked him down while attempting to flee in Enugu State.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred during a routine police operation when officers reportedly intercepted the commercial vehicle. The suspects allegedly resisted arrest, seized the officer’s service rifle, and hit the policeman with their vehicle before escaping the scene.
According to the police, a swift manhunt led to the arrest of the driver and conductor, while the stolen AK-47 rifle was successfully recovered. The injured officer was immediately taken to a medical facility, where he is receiving treatment.
The Enugu State Police Command condemned the attack on its personnel, describing it as a serious assault on law enforcement officers carrying out their lawful duties. The command assured residents that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
CDA News Nigeria reports that investigations into the incident are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack and whether other individuals were involved. The police also urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information capable of preventing crime.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
