The family of Mary Habila, the 26-year-old nurse whose death is under police investigation, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), demanding the immediate release of her body for burial.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the family urged the Nigeria Police Force to allow them to bury their daughter, expressing concerns over the continued retention of her remains while investigations into her death continue.
According to reports, the petition followed the family’s insistence that they should be allowed to give Mary Habila a dignified burial. The case has attracted national attention after she was found dead under circumstances that prompted a police investigation.
The police had earlier requested an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, while assuring the public that investigations would be thorough, transparent, and guided by due process.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the family’s latest petition adds a new dimension to the ongoing case, as many Nigerians continue to await the outcome of the police investigation. Authorities are yet to publicly respond to the petition at the time of filing this report.
