FG Spent N252bn on Security in Six Months as Kogi, Plateau, Bauchi Top List

ABUJA — No fewer than 31 state governments spent an estimated N252.26 billion fighting criminality and insecurity in the first six months of 2026, with Kogi, Plateau and Bauchi accounting for the largest shares .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the federal allocation to states increased significantly, enabling the spending . Kogi State topped the list with N22.13 billion, followed by Plateau with N13.33 billion and Bauchi with N12.15 billion . The spending comes amid persistent security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, communal clashes, and farmer-herder conflicts across several states .

In other news, terrorists killed at least 28 people, including the chief imam of a local mosque, in an attack on Ungushi community in Sokoto State . The Nigerian Army has since deployed troops to the area to pursue the attackers . Meanwhile, retired military officers are set to protest at the Ministry of Defence over non-implementation of consequential adjustments to their pensions .

In Osun State, a policeman was injured in an accidental discharge as Peoples Democratic Party local government chairmen and legislators seized council secretariats following Governor Ademola Adeleke’s election victory . The PDP officials reportedly took over the secretariats on Monday, while the police are said to be investigating the incident .
