CALABAR — A fierce fire outbreak is currently raging at SPAR, a popular shopping outlet in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, this Saturday morning, causing panic and the destruction of goods worth millions of naira .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the fire reportedly started inside the shopping complex, sending thick smoke billowing across the city . Fierce flames could be seen from Barracks Road, about 100 yards away from the scene .
CDA News Nigeria reports that several shops and goods within the mall have been destroyed in the blaze, with shop owners watching helplessly . While initial reports indicated a delay in emergency response, a journalist at the scene confirmed that about three fire service trucks arrived and are making efforts to pump water from the SPAR borehole to contain the flames .
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, although the outlet houses several heat-generating operations, including a bakery and kitchen facilities . There is also no official confirmation on whether anyone has been trapped or injured in the incident .
