Former Governor Sule Lamido Issues Ultimatum, May Leave Crisis-Ridden PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party faces the potential loss of another key figure as former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has issued a stark ultimatum, stating he may leave the party if its protracted internal crisis is not resolved.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service monitored on Tuesday, the elder statesman and founding member of the PDP expressed deep disappointment over what he described as “calculated efforts” by some individuals to weaken and destroy the main opposition party.

“If we cannot find solutions to the problems facing the PDP, I will have no option but to look elsewhere,” Lamido declared, indicating he would consider aligning with another political party.

Lamido lamented that the PDP, once a unifying national platform, is now crippled by infighting that has left loyal members frustrated. He warned that continued disunity could further erode the party’s strength ahead of future elections.

He criticized the party’s leadership for failing to urgently address the deepening divisions, stating that this failure may force him to reconsider his political future to serve his principles and convictions.

While reaffirming his commitment to democratic ideals, Lamido stressed that he would ultimately make a decision that best aligns with his political stance if the crisis persists unabated.

His statement adds to the growing pressure on the PDP to reconcile its factions or risk further disintegration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
