Former Provost Accused of Diverting TETFund Assets to Private School

A coalition of concerned stakeholders has issued a powerful call for accountability, demanding an investigation into serious allegations against a former head of a tertiary institution in Abia State.

The group alleges that Dr. Philips Nto, the former Provost of Abia State College of Education Technical, Arochukwu (ASCETA), unlawfully diverted educational materials and equipment supplied by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to his privately-owned school in Umuahia.

TETFund interventions, funded by taxpayers, are strictly for the development of public tertiary institutions. The stakeholders allege that technological devices, laboratory tools, and instructional resources meant for ASCETA were transferred to the private institution for personal gain, calling the act “not only unethical but also criminal.”

The allegations have sparked outrage, with calls for a probe to determine the items removed, their value, and who facilitated the movement. Stakeholders emphasize this strikes at the heart of public trust and undermines the quality of teacher education in Nigeria.

They are urging anti-graft agencies, the Ministry of Education, and TETFund to launch a full investigation to ensure justice and protect the integrity of public education.
