Fubara Set to Present 2026 Budget Amid Truce with Wike Camp

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is set to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, following a peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu between the Governor and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The budget, estimated at N1.85 trillion and tagged “Budget of Resilience,” was approved by the State Executive Council in early January. Key allocations include N620 billion for infrastructure, N310 billion for education, N215 billion for health, and N95 billion for security.

This move marks a significant shift after months of legislative stalemate and impeachment threats from the Wike-led assembly faction. The governor had previously refused to present a supplementary budget in late 2025, deepening the political crisis.

Although Fubara recently defected to the APC, the party’s national leadership has described the Rivers feud as a “personal matter,” leaving the governor to navigate the delicate peace arrangement alone.
