A tragic tanker explosion in Niger State has claimed 35 lives after locals rushed to scoop fuel from an overturned vehicle.
The incident occurred Tuesday along the Bida-Lapai route. Officials report the tanker, laden with petrol, crashed and overturned. Moments later, residents gathered to collect the spilled fuel before it ignited into a massive fire.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed 46 others were injured. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed warned, “No litre of fuel is worth a human life,” urging the public to never approach crash sites involving flammable substances.
Rescue teams and the fire service responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze and evacuate victims.
