A coalition of civil society and civilian security groups in Katsina State has endorsed the state government’s dialogue-based approach to restoring peace with bandits.
Chairman Shamsuddeen Na’Alhaji stated that peace agreements have led to a 90% reduction in bandit attacks and kidnappings, allowing farmers to return to their fields, schools to reopen, and free movement at night in previously volatile areas.
The coalition argued that dialogue has succeeded where military force failed and aligns with religious and moral values supporting reconciliation.
It also backed the government’s move to seek the release of detained bandits if it contributes to sustainable peace, urging other northern states to adopt similar dialogue strategies.
