Gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped a Catholic priest and killed three security operatives during a rescue operation in Ningi village, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Catholic Archdiocese of Kafanchan confirmed the abduction of Reverend Father Nathaniel Asuwaye, the parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Karku community. The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday when armed men stormed the priest’s residence. Local reports indicate several other individuals were also taken.
During efforts to rescue the victims, three security personnel were ambushed and killed by the assailants. The Diocesan Chancellor, Very Reverend Father Jacob Shanet, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and confirmed the deaths.
Security agencies have launched a manhunt for the attackers and are combing the area in an attempt to secure the release of the abducted victims.
