Two Suicide Bombers Still On The Loose In Maiduguri – Gov Zulum

MAIDUGURI, NIGERIA — Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has raised the alarm that two suicide bombers remain at large in Maiduguri following last week’s coordinated attacks that killed at least 23 people and injured over 100 others .

The governor issued the security alert on Saturday, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid crowded areas as security forces intensify efforts to track down the fleeing terrorists .

“We have credible intelligence that two suicide bombers are still on the loose within Maiduguri metropolis. I urge all residents to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security agencies,” Zulum said during a security briefing in Maiduguri .
Background of Attacks

Last Monday, March 16, 2026, suspected Boko Haram terrorists carried out coordinated suicide bombings targeting crowded locations, including the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) gate, the Monday Market roundabout, and the Post Office area around 7:05 p.m. as Muslims were breaking their fast .

The attacks marked the first major bombings in Maiduguri since 2021 and prompted President Bola Tinubu to direct service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to take charge of the security situation .
Security Response

Following the attacks, security forces have intensified surveillance and search operations across the city. The Nigerian Army had earlier warned that preliminary intelligence suggested multiple suicide bombers may have been deployed into Maiduguri .

Governor Zulum commended security agencies for their swift response and ongoing efforts to apprehend the remaining bombers . He assured residents that the government would not relent until all threats are neutralized .

The governor advised residents to exercise caution, avoid large gatherings, and cooperate with security personnel by providing timely information about suspicious individuals or activities .
