Governor Kefas Closes Mosque, Orders Construction Of Three New Ones To Quell Sectarian Clash In Taraba

In a decisive move to restore peace, Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has ordered the temporary closure of a central Jumma’at Mosque in Donga town following a violent clash between Muslim sects that resulted in two fatalities and several injuries.

The governor announced the closure during an expanded peace meeting held at the palace of the Gara Donga, the traditional ruler.

To ensure lasting harmony and fairness, Governor Kefas revealed a unique solution: the government will construct three new mosques for the three disputing sects—Izala-Jos, Izala-Kaduna, and Darika.

“The Traditional Council’s Mosque will remain closed temporarily until the government constructs three new mosques,” the governor stated, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to justice and peaceful coexistence.

He reassured the Christian community of inclusion, noting, “our Christian brothers under CAN will not be forgotten in the spirit of balance and mutual respect.”

Governor Kefas lamented the divisions within the Muslim community, urging all parties to embrace peace and forgiveness. He stressed that without peace, there can be no progress or development.

Leaders from the various Muslim sects and the traditional council commended the governor’s intervention, describing it as wise and fair, and pledged their commitment to maintaining stability in the area.
