Gunmen Abduct Five University Students in Rivers, Hijack Bus with 14 Passengers in Imo

In separate incidents highlighting the persistent insecurity in southern Nigeria, gunmen have abducted five university students in Rivers State and hijacked a bus carrying 14 passengers in Imo State.

In the early hours of Tuesday, suspected cultists stormed an off-campus residence near the Rivers State University (RSU) Emohua Satellite Campus, shooting sporadically before taking five students hostage. This attack occurred despite recent student protests over safety concerns and appeals for relocation.

Separately, on Monday evening, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen emerged from the bush along the Owerri-Aba Expressway in Imo State, hijacked a commercial bus, and abducted all 14 passengers aboard. The area has been a recurrent hotspot for similar kidnappings.

Police in both states have launched investigations and manhunts for the perpetrators, with tactical teams deployed to the affected areas.
