ENUGU — The Enugu State Police Command has launched an investigation to identify and arrest a yet-to-be-identified driver who allegedly killed two men in a hit-and-run crash at Airport Corner, Emene, in the Enugu East Local Government Area .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred around 10 am on Wednesday when the driver, said to be travelling from Emene towards Enugu city centre, allegedly lost control of his vehicle while negotiating the area at high speed . The command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident, stating that a hit-and-run driver killed two people and fled the scene .
CDA News Nigeria reports that an eyewitness told our correspondent that one of the victims had stopped his vehicle after it developed a fault and went to a nearby mechanic workshop to obtain tools to repair it . The witness said the victim was returning the tools after fixing his vehicle when the speeding driver allegedly rammed into him, killing him instantly and severing one of his legs . The driver allegedly continued driving and subsequently hit another man, who also died, before fleeing the scene .
Another eyewitness said the driver failed to stop or assist the victims but continued towards the Airport Roundabout at high speed, where he allegedly nearly hit other road users . The incident occurred barely days after the command ordered the immediate enforcement of traffic laws across the state, following what the police described as the rampant disregard for traffic regulations by motorists .
