Igboho Writes Makinde: Let Iru Ekun Guard Public Schools Amid Kidnapping Crisis

Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has written to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, expressing readiness to deploy personnel of his private security outfit, Iru Ekun Security Network, to protect public schools across the state .

The proposal comes 24 days after the abduction of pupils and teachers during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, where a teacher was beheaded in captivity .

In a letter dated June 9, 2026, addressed to the Commissioner for Education and copied to the governor, Igboho requested detailed data on the number and locations of public schools in the state .

“Upon receipt of the requested information, we will ensure that at least two trained members of the outfit are stationed at each public school,” part of the letter read . Their mandate includes guarding school premises, monitoring access points, liaising with principals and community vigilantes, and preventing unlawful incursion by criminal elements .

Igboho also advised the state government to erect perimeter fencing around schools to make monitoring easier .

The activist, who launched Iru Ekun in May 2026 with about 50,000 members, said the outfit is ready to work with SUBEB, TESCOM, school boards, and community stakeholders to restore confidence in public education .

While commending ongoing rescue efforts by the government, Igboho warned that “every day without preventive deployment exposes our children and teachers to avoidable risk” .
