A legal representative of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has offered reasons why, in his view, many young people from the South-East are reluctant to enlist in the Nigerian Army.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the IPOB counsel attributed the reluctance to concerns over security, trust in state institutions, and perceptions of unequal treatment. He argued that addressing these concerns would require sustained dialogue, confidence-building measures, and policies aimed at restoring trust among young people in the region.
According to the lawyer, encouraging greater participation in military recruitment would depend on ensuring fairness, transparency, and equal opportunities for all Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic or regional backgrounds.
The comments come amid ongoing discussions about military recruitment and the level of participation from different parts of the country. Security experts and government officials have repeatedly encouraged eligible Nigerians to enlist, stressing the importance of national service and equal opportunities in the armed forces.
