The Israeli military has issued a public warning to residents of two villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate immediately, saying it will soon carry out strikes against Hezbollah “military infrastructure” in the area.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Israeli army shared maps identifying specific buildings in the villages of Jbaa and Mahrouna, warning that remaining in the area “puts you at risk.”
“The (Israeli army) will soon strike military infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organisation across areas in southern Lebanon, in response to Hezbollah’s prohibited attempts to rebuild its activities,” stated Avichay Adraee, the military’s Arabic-language spokesman.
This warning comes just one day after Israel and Lebanon held their first direct talks in decades. The discussions, attended by US Special Envoy Morgan Ortagus, were part of a year-old ceasefire monitoring mechanism established after a truce was agreed in November 2024 to end over a year of cross-border fighting.
While the Israeli Prime Minister’s office described the atmosphere of the talks as “positive,” it also stressed that it was “essential” for Hezbollah to disarm.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel has repeatedly conducted airstrikes in Lebanon, asserting they target Hezbollah members and infrastructure to prevent the group from rearming. Israel also maintains troops in parts of southern Lebanon, a violation of the truce terms that called for a full withdrawal.
