Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has issued a heartfelt appeal for peace following the recent violent clashes in Okon-Aku, Ohafia Local Government Area, which led to loss of life and destruction of property.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, Senator Kalu extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the injured, and all affected residents, describing the incident as a collective pain for the people of Abia North.
He commended the swift intervention of the Abia State Police Command and the mediating role of the Ohafia Council of Monarchs in restoring calm and fostering reconciliation.
“Violence only breeds further suffering and stalls progress… I therefore urge all parties in Okon-Aku to immediately cease hostilities, embrace dialogue, and allow constituted authorities and security agencies to facilitate a just and lasting resolution,” Kalu stated.
The senator also called on Governor Alex Otti to intervene decisively to restore lasting peace in the community through due process and in accordance with Ohafia traditions.
Kalu reaffirmed his readiness, as the Senator representing Abia North, to support reconciliation initiatives that uphold the rule of law and ensure the safety of all residents.
