The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 25 individuals after raiding and shutting down a party alleged to be a same-sex marriage ceremony.
The operation took place in the Fagge Local Government Area of the state. Hisbah officials, who enforce Sharia law in the northern Nigerian state, stated they acted on a tip-off about the event.
The Commander-General of Hisbah confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects were apprehended at the venue, which was decorated for a celebration. He reiterated that such gatherings are illegal under Nigerian law and Kano’s religious codes.
All 25 suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court. Same-sex marriage is prohibited nationwide in Nigeria, with laws carrying severe penalties.
