ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Federal Government has announced a series of measures aimed at resolving the ongoing gas supply shortages that have contributed to widespread electricity blackouts across Nigeria.
According to the Ministry of Power, the government is coordinating with gas suppliers, power generation companies, and regulatory bodies to ensure uninterrupted delivery of natural gas to critical power plants. This initiative seeks to stabilize electricity generation and reduce the frequency of power outages affecting homes, businesses, and industries nationwide.
Officials noted that the crisis, largely attributed to pipeline vandalism, maintenance challenges, and inconsistent supply from local producers, has significantly impacted power generation, with some regions experiencing prolonged blackouts.
The government has also engaged the Nigerian Gas Company and independent power providers to fast-track repairs, optimize pipeline operations, and increase supply to major thermal power plants. Emergency monitoring teams have been deployed to identify and swiftly address disruptions in the gas distribution network.
