LAGOS – The Lagos State Government has initiated a second round of enumeration for residents of Oworonshoki, reaffirming its commitment to compensating all legitimate property owners affected by the ongoing urban regeneration project in the area.
The exercise, coordinated by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), took place at the Oloworo Palace in Kosofe Local Government Area. It was supervised by the agency’s General Manager, Town Planner Oladimeji Animashaun, and witnessed by community leaders, civil society organizations, and a large turnout of residents.
According to Animashaun, the second phase of enumeration was necessary to accommodate property owners who were not captured during the initial exercise, ensuring comprehensive compliance with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive that all affected individuals are duly compensated.
Restoring Public Trust Through Action
“About a week ago, we were here to distribute compensation to those whose houses were demolished… Some residents who were not captured during the initial enumeration appealed for another opportunity,” Animashaun stated.
He noted that the successful disbursement of the first batch of compensation last week helped build trust among previously skeptical residents. The high turnout for the second enumeration, he said, is a testament to this renewed confidence in the government’s sincerity.
“Some people initially thought the government was not serious about paying compensation… But when they saw that their neighbours actually received payment, they realised it was genuine. Now everyone wants to be part of it,” the LASURA General Manager explained.
He assured all qualified residents that the compensation process would be completed without unnecessary delays, bringing relief to those impacted by the demolition for the strategic urban renewal initiative.
