UYO – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has deployed 500 personnel to Anambra State to bolster security for the upcoming November 8, 2025, governorship election, in a move to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
Commissioner of Police Baba Azare addressed the officers on Tuesday at the Command’s Parade Ground in Uyo before their deployment, issuing a strong warning against any form of corruption or unethical practices that could undermine the exercise.
The temporary redeployment is in compliance with a directive from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, as part of inter-state security coordination for the election.
Strict Adherence to Professional Conduct
CP Azare emphasized that the officers’ conduct must be strictly guided by the Nigerian Constitution and the Police Act and regulations.
“The Inspector General of Police will not tolerate any act of indiscipline and corruption while on this beat and beyond,” Azare stated. “So also, the command will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against anyone that indulges in illegal activities.”
He urged the personnel to serve as good ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to discipline and ethical standards.
Comprehensive Logistics and Movement Protocol
The Commissioner assured the deployed officers that comprehensive arrangements had been made for their transportation and safety during the movement to and from Anambra State.
He established clear protocols, mandating that all personnel must remain at their posts until officially relieved by a “stand down” order.
“Anyone of you that decided to leave before time will be sanctioned because you cannot leave without instructions,” Azare emphasized, adding that a headcount would be conducted to ensure the full contingent’s safe return.
The deployment underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining security and order during the crucial gubernatorial poll.
