The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has slammed the Federal Government following the Court of Appeal’s decision to reverse the deregistration of the party and four others, declaring that the judiciary, not the ADC, is now on trial .
Speaking at the ADC Strategic Communications Retreat in Abuja, the former Senate President accused the judiciary of actions capable of undermining public confidence in the nation’s democratic process . He questioned the conduct of Justice Peter Lifu, who delivered the controversial ruling despite an earlier appellate court order directing him to suspend proceedings .
“The ADC is not on trial. Rather, it is the judiciary that is on trial and the nation is waiting to see how the National Judicial Council is going to handle this precarious situation,” Mark stated .
Mark described the lower court’s action as unprecedented, noting that Justice Lifu ordered INEC to deregister the ADC and, in less than 24 hours, proceeded to hear another case involving the same party . He also alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress is attempting to weaken opposition platforms through distractions .
Despite the legal setback, Mark urged ADC members not to lose confidence, assuring them the party would emerge stronger and remain on the ballot for the 2027 elections .
