UMUAHIA — Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, has faulted the state government’s level of compliance with the Supreme Court judgment on local government financial autonomy.
Reacting to President Bola Tinubu’s recent call for states to obey the apex court ruling, Kalu stated that the Alex Otti-led administration has not shown “visible adherence” to the judgment beyond policy statements.

Kalu emphasized that local government autonomy is a constitutional matter that should not be subject to selective or delayed implementation. He argued that continued hesitation weakens grassroots governance and erodes public trust in democratic institutions.
“Obedience to court rulings must be reflected in action, not selective compliance,” Kalu asserted, urging the Abia government to take clear, practical steps toward full compliance without further delay.
He called on the state to align with Tinubu’s directive, stressing that respecting judicial pronouncements is fundamental to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and federal system.
