The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the aircraft that made an emergency landing on a road in Delta State, explaining why a 75-year-old pilot was at the controls of the aircraft.
According to the aviation regulator, the pilot was duly certified and medically fit to operate the aircraft in line with existing aviation regulations. The NCAA noted that age alone does not disqualify a pilot from flying, provided the individual continues to meet the required medical, training, and licensing standards.
The authority explained that the emergency landing was carried out after the aircraft experienced technical challenges during flight, forcing the pilot to seek the safest available location to avoid a more serious incident.
Officials commended the pilot’s professionalism and experience, noting that the successful landing helped prevent casualties and significant damage.
The incident attracted public attention after images and videos of the aircraft on a roadway in Delta State circulated widely on social media, prompting questions about aviation safety and pilot eligibility.
The NCAA reassured Nigerians that a full investigation into the incident is ongoing and that all safety protocols are being followed to determine the exact cause of the emergency landing.
The regulator further emphasized its commitment to maintaining high aviation safety standards across the country.
