NCAA Issues Urgent Ebola Alert to Airlines and Airport Operators Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued an urgent Ebola alert to all airlines and airport operators across the country, directing immediate precautionary and surveillance measures as concerns over a potential outbreak mount.

The alert, which signals a heightened level of public health vigilance within Nigeria’s aviation sector, instructs airline operators, airport management authorities, and ground handling companies to activate emergency health protocols and remain on high alert for any passengers displaying symptoms associated with the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

NCAA directed all aviation stakeholders to ensure that health screening measures at airports are strengthened, with particular attention to international flights arriving from countries currently battling or at risk of Ebola outbreaks.

The authority further called on airlines to brief their cabin crew and ground staff on Ebola identification protocols, proper handling of suspected cases, and immediate reporting procedures to Port Health Services and relevant health authorities upon detection of any symptomatic passenger.

Ebola Virus Disease, known for its extremely high fatality rate, spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected persons and demands swift containment measures to prevent community transmission.

Health experts warn that airports represent a critical frontline in disease surveillance, given the volume of international travelers passing through Nigerian airports daily.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health are expected to issue further public health guidance as the situation develops.

Nigerians are advised to remain calm but vigilant, and to report any suspicious symptoms to the nearest health facility immediately.
