World football governing body, FIFA, has not yet given final approval to the proposed Normalisation Committee for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), following a high-level meeting between Nigerian officials and FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Zurich, Switzerland .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the Nigerian delegation, led by National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Shehu Dikko, presented a proposal to establish a Normalisation Committee to oversee reforms and organise fresh elections for the NFF . President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had ordered this comprehensive reform, describing the state of Nigerian football as a national emergency after the mass resignation of the Ibrahim Gusau-led board .
A FIFA delegation is now expected to visit Nigeria before the Normalisation Committee plan is ratified .
According to reports, FIFA President Infantino and his team held “fruitful talks” with the Nigerian delegation but withheld outright approval, pending the visit . The world body will also be deeply involved in the selection and integrity vetting of committee members .
CDA News Nigeria further learned that the committee’s tenure could last between three months and one year, with AbdulHakeem Uthman Mustapha, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and FIFA committee member, emerging as a leading candidate to head it . Meanwhile, the NFF has dismissed as “fake” a purported FIFA letter threatening Nigeria’s suspension over government interference , confirming that FIFA has already accepted the mass resignations .
