Police Arrest Two Suspected Child Traffickers, Rescue Four-Year-Old Girl in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two suspected child traffickers and successfully rescued a four-year-old girl in Abuja.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the suspects were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation by the police, which was prompted by a report of a missing child.

The operation, which was carried out by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led to the rescue of the minor and the arrest of the individuals believed to be part of a trafficking syndicate operating within the nation’s capital. The rescued child has been reunited with her family [citation:1].

According to sources, the suspects were tracked to a location on the outskirts of Abuja, where they were keeping the child pending transfer to another state. It is suspected that the child was being prepared for sale to an awaiting buyer. The police have intensified investigations into the matter to determine the full extent of the network [citation:1].

The Commissioner of Police for the FCT commended the operatives for their swift action and assured residents of the command’s commitment to combating crime, particularly those involving children.

CDA News Nigeria reports that child trafficking remains a significant challenge in Nigeria, often driven by poverty and exploitation. The police continue to urge citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities [citation:2].

The suspects are currently in custody and will face charges upon the completion of the investigation.
