Nigerian Christian Leaders Issue Stern Warning Over Church Attacks

The Nigerian Christian community has issued a strong condemnation and a dire warning following recent deadly attacks on churches in Kogi State.

Under the aegis of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Ecclesiastical Affairs, the body expressed being “appalled and outraged” by assaults, including one on an Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in the Àaaaz-Kiri community.

In a statement signed by Bishop Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, Secretary of the Elders’ Council, the group labeled the violence “an assault on our faith” and a symptom of the government’s failure to protect citizens.

The Council warned that continued inaction risks plunging the nation into “chaos and anarchy,” citing potential consequences like increased bloodshed, mass displacement, and economic instability.

It called for immediate government action to bring perpetrators to justice, secure places of worship, and address root causes like poverty and marginalization.

“We will not be intimidated or silenced by these acts of terror,” the statement concluded.
