Nigerians in U.S. Unanimously Reject Any Military Intervention in Homeland

NEW YORK – In a unified stance, Nigerian organizations in the United States have firmly rejected any suggestion of U.S. military intervention in their homeland, responding to recent statements from President Donald Trump.

The Organisation for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN), together with 19 other prominent diaspora groups, issued a strong statement opposing any foreign military action under the guise of protecting Christians.

“While we recognise and join in the urgent concern over the killings of Christians, Muslims and other innocent Nigerians, we unequivocally reject the idea of foreign military intervention on Nigerian soil,” the coalition stated. They emphasized that “Nigeria is a sovereign nation” and that protecting citizens “must remain in the hands of the Nigerian government.”

The groups expressed “deep dismay” at the inability of successive Nigerian administrations to halt violence across the country, citing “serious security lapses and lack of accountability.” However, they maintained that “foreign military presence is not the solution.”

Instead of intervention, the coalition called for urgent action from the Nigerian government, including strengthened citizen protection, intelligence sharing with international partners, and transparent security audits. They cautioned that Nigeria’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern” should serve as “a wake-up call, not an excuse for external interference.”
