Nigeria’s Petrol Demand Hits 63.7 Million Litres Daily in December — NMDPRA

Nigeria’s daily consumption of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, surged to 63.7 million litres in December 2025, according to the latest data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The figure represents a significant increase from November’s 52.9 million litres and exceeds the 2025 national daily benchmark of 50 million litres by 27%.

The NMDPRA attributed the rise to heightened festive demand and noted that domestic refining capacity, led by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, helped stabilize supply. Dangote’s output increased from 19.5 million litres per day in November to 32 million litres per day in December.

Despite the rise in local production, daily imports fell to 42.2 million litres from 52.1 million litres in the previous month.

The report also indicated improved fuel stock sufficiency, with PMS reserves now covering 29 days nationwide.
