Key stations like MRS, AA Rano, and Bovas have implemented cuts. MRS now sells at N739 per litre (down from N910), AA Rano at N840 per litre, and Bovas at N865 per litre. This translates to reductions ranging from N45 to N171. However, the price change is not uniform nationwide, with stations like Ranoil and Empire Energy still maintaining prices around N910.
⛽ The Dangote Catalyst
This market movement follows a series of actions by the Dangote Refinery. Last week, the refinery reduced the gantry price of its petrol to N699 per litre from N828. Furthermore, the refinery’s President, Aliko Dangote, publicly stated that the country’s fuel price should not exceed N740 per litre. These moves appear to have ignited a competitive response within the downstream sector.
Market checks indicate that the ex-depot price—the cost at which fuel leaves the storage depot—currently stands at approximately N703 per litre for Dangote and Pinnacle Oil, and N708 for Bovas.
🔍 Mixed Market Response
While the trend is promising for consumers, it remains inconsistent. Several major stations have yet to adjust their prices, and some Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) retail outlets were reportedly out of supply as of Wednesday. The situation highlights the fragmented nature of Nigeria’s fuel distribution network and the varying responses of marketers to changes in wholesale costs.
