ABUJA – Engr. Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), has publicly responded to corruption allegations involving his children’s education, stating he welcomes official investigation.
In a detailed statement released on Tuesday, Ahmed addressed claims that he spent $7 million on school fees, describing the allegations as “weaponization of my family’s privacy.” He explained that his children received substantial merit-based scholarships and that education was supported by family trust funds set up by his late father.
Ahmed emphasized his three-decade career in the petroleum sector, rising through technical roles based on merit. He stated his annual compensation is approximately ₦48 million and that his savings, combined with family resources and scholarships, legitimately funded the education.
In a bold move, he publicly authorized all schools his children attended to release financial records to authorized Nigerian investigators. He also formally requested the Code of Conduct Bureau, EFCC, and the National Assembly to review his asset declarations and finances.
The CEO linked the allegations to friction caused by NMDPRA’s recent regulatory reforms, which he said have disrupted entities benefiting from sector opacity.
