The Presidency has launched a stinging attack on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, mocking the opposition party over the alleged absence of an accessible manifesto — a development the Presidency described as deeply telling about the NDC’s readiness to govern Nigeria.
In what observers are calling a calculated political jab, the Presidency declared that a search for the NDC’s manifesto returned no results, openly ridiculing the party’s credibility and capacity to present a serious alternative to President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“No document found,” the Presidency’s statement pointedly noted, using the damning phrase to question the seriousness, structure, and policy depth of the NDC as a political movement.
The attack is widely seen as a deliberate attempt by the Presidency to undermine the NDC’s growing momentum, particularly as Dickson has been increasingly vocal in positioning his party as a credible opposition platform capable of challenging the ruling APC on the national stage.
Presidential spokespersons argued that a political party aspiring to lead Africa’s most populous nation must, at the very minimum, possess a clear, accessible, and well-articulated manifesto that voters and stakeholders can evaluate and scrutinise.
The NDC is yet to issue an official response to the Presidency’s mockery, but party insiders are said to be preparing a counter-statement to address the allegations and defend the party’s political vision.
As Nigeria’s 2027 electoral season accelerates, the exchange signals that the battle of ideas and political legitimacy between the ruling APC and emerging opposition platforms is already well and truly underway.
