…Lere Olayinka Says Nyesom Wike’s Political Style Delivered Results, Unlike His Critic
Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed criticism from an African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, declaring that Wike’s so-called “nuisance value” propelled him to become local government chairman and governor twice.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Olayinka was responding to remarks by ADC chieftain Ibrahim Modibbo, who appeared on AIT’s Democracy Today on Friday evening and accused Wike of engaging in press conferences of “nuisance value” . Modibbo also charged the FCT Minister to stay indoors during the 2027 general elections, alleging that he had harassed voters during the recent local government elections .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Wike served as Executive Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State from 1999 to 2007 and later as Rivers State Governor for two terms, from 2015 to 2023 . In a sharp rebuttal, Olayinka turned Modibbo’s critique on its head, arguing that the same “nuisance value” had delivered tangible political success.
“I can also say that your coming here is of nuisance value,” Olayinka shot back. “Wike’s nuisance value made him a local government Chairman, that nuisance value made him governor for two terms, he won election twice” . He further noted Wike’s accurate prediction that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would not win the 2023 presidential election, adding: “but you that have nuisance value has not been governor or chairman, so whose nuisance value is better?” .
