Ohanaeze Pledges Support for Impactful Leaders, Inaugurates New Cross River Excos

The Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has declared it will no longer remain passive in politics and will only support leaders who positively impact their citizens’ lives.

Chief Chukwuemeka Egwuonwu, the newly inaugurated Ohanaeze President in Cross River State, made the declaration at a reception in Calabar. He stated the group would actively reject leaders who manipulate the people and cause hardship.

Egwuonwu praised Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, for running an inclusive and people-oriented administration, lauding him for keeping his promises to both indigenes and non-indigenes.

In his speech, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Mbata, charged the new state executive to prioritize unity and the preservation of Igbo heritage. He noted the national body is rebuilding the organization into a formidable global voice.

Responding, Governor Otu called on the Igbo community to continue as partners in the state’s progress, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to inclusivity and a sense of belonging for all residents
