OPOBO – The organisers of the Opobo Marathon have announced a significant partnership, sealing a strategic sponsorship deal with the Ailes Group for the upcoming 8th edition of the annual race.
Scheduled for January 5, 2026, in the historic coastal town of Opobo, Rivers State, the event continues to grow as one of Nigeria’s most recognized community-based coastal road races, attracting runners and visitors nationwide.
Ailes Group, a fast-rising conglomerate with diverse interests in technology, energy, and integrated solutions, now joins the roster of corporate partners supporting the marathon, which aims to showcase the rich heritage of the Opobo Kingdom and drive socio-economic activity in the region.
A Partnership for Community and Wellness
Founder and Project Lead of Opobo Marathon, Henry Iyowuna Cookey, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating it marks a milestone in the marathon’s journey of expansion and purpose-driven impact.
“We are delighted to welcome Ailes Group as a valued partner for the 8th Opobo Marathon. This partnership underscores our shared commitment to innovation, wellness, and community development. Together, we’re not just running — we’re going further,” Cookey said.
In a supporting statement, the Chairman and Managing Director of Ailes Group, Chief Micheal Onuoha, explained that the decision to sponsor the event aligns with the conglomerate’s vision to back initiatives that foster social development and promote unity through sports.
“Opobo Marathon represents resilience, collaboration, and progress — values that resonate deeply with Ailes Group. We are proud to be part of this inspiring platform that continues to empower communities and promote excellence,” Onuoha said.
The 2026 edition, themed ‘Gbamaso- Be Limitless,’ promises to build on the success of previous years with a larger pool of athletes, increased community participation, and stronger institutional partnerships.
