The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, headed by former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has endorsed the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Hon. Adewale Adebayo, ahead of the August 15 governorship election, CDA News Nigeria reports.
Speaking to journalists at his residence in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area, Oyinlola dismissed claims of a PDP-Accord alliance in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid, insisting that his structure would rather work for APM.
He was accompanied by former Secretary to the State Government, Fatai Akinbade, and former PDP South-West Vice Chairman, Tajudeen Oladipo, as he formally declared support for Adebayo. According to Oyinlola, there is an alliance between the PDP and the Allied Peoples Movement, with the Turaki-led faction adopting the APM candidate in Osun State.
He explained that the alliance was formed to build a formidable political force ahead of both the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections, describing the meeting as an opportunity to acquaint party leaders with the candidates.
Oladipo, who disclosed that some leaders had privately solicited his support before the endorsement, said residents had lost confidence in both Accord and the APC, describing APM as a credible alternative for Osun voters.
Reacting to the endorsement, Adebayo described the Osun poll as a litmus test for the 2027 general elections, noting that a victory would signal momentum for APM’s presidential ambitions.
The development is seen as a significant setback for Governor Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord platform against APC’s Bola Oyebamiji and ADC’s Najeem Salaam.
