‘Palmwine Expert’ Ememanka Urged to Bring Facts, Not Theatrics, to Political Debate

A political commentary by Okechukwu Iboko has taken aim at Onyebuchi Ememanka, the Director of Publicity for Governor Alex Otti’s 2027 re-election campaign, describing him as an expert on palmwine matters whose rhetorical style belongs in the drinking parlour rather than in serious discussions about public finance.

CDA News Nigeria reports that the piece, titled “Onyebuchi Ememanka: Expert on Palmwine Matters,” criticises Ememanka for allegedly bringing the spirit of the palmwine circle into political arguments that demand sober reasoning. The author, a self-described observer of Abia politics, described Ememanka as a long-standing member of the Kegites Club and a “karid entity of the highest order.”

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the commentary challenges Ememanka to address questions of government expenditure, project financing and public accountability with documents rather than theatrics. It asks: what is the source of funding, what are the approved budgetary provisions, and which agency is responsible for implementation?

The piece further draws a distinction between Ememanka’s celebrated association with palmwine and the political priorities of Rep. Emeka Atuma, the APC candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District in 2027. It argues that Atuma’s message is centred on representation, infrastructure and empowerment, and should be assessed on his record and proposals.

The author concludes that while palm wine belongs to the culture of conviviality, public finance belongs to the discipline of evidence, urging Ememanka to “distance yourself from ‘Palmy’ during this campaign period.”
