PDP Convention Holds Amid Crisis

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held its national convention over the weekend amid lingering internal crisis, with factions within the party clashing over leadership positions and the credibility of the exercise.

Despite weeks of tension and reconciliation talks, the convention proceeded as scheduled, with delegates from across the country electing a new National Working Committee (NWC). However, the exercise was marked by protests from some stakeholders who alleged irregularities in the delegate list and the zoning of key offices.

The faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike participated in the convention, while other aggrieved members staged a walkout, describing the process as flawed.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected National Chairman called for unity and pledged to carry all members along.

“We have had our differences, but the time has come to rebuild. The PDP must stand together to rescue Nigeria in 2027,” he said.

The convention came after months of legal battles and public feuding between the Wike camp and the party’s mainstream leadership. Political observers say the outcome may not immediately resolve the party’s internal divisions.
