The NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed concerns about his political future, saying he may not be alive to contest the 2027 presidential election.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Obi made the remarks during an interview on With Chude, hosted by media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo, where he alleged that his activities were being deliberately frustrated.
Responding to a question on whether he could emerge as a candidate in 2027, Obi said, “Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I’m telling you.”
He further alleged that every aspect of his work and public engagements was being obstructed, adding that there was a possibility he could be prevented from participating in future political activities.
Obi, however, clarified that he was not making a direct accusation against any individual or institution. According to him, the challenges he experiences are reflected in what he described as consistent acts of frustration.
“It’s not an accusation. I know. I get frustration every day. Because you do things that you think would be normal—it is not normal anymore. They won’t come directly and say, ‘Oh, we’re doing this,’ but you can see their hand in virtually everything,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government had not issued an official response to Obi’s comments.
