…Iranian President Accuses Washington, Israel of Terrorism as US-Iran Talks Hold in New York
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has responded forcefully to US President Donald Trump’s threats against Iran, accusing Washington and Israel of terrorism and insisting that Tehran will not surrender under military pressure.
CDA News Nigeria reports that speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, Pezeshkian said he had changed the speech he originally prepared after Trump accused Iran of terrorism.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Pezeshkian said, “The United States President described us as terrorists,” adding that Iran had itself been “the victim of terrorism.”
The Iranian president also criticised the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, which he described as having occurred without a legal framework or justification. He displayed photographs of people he said were killed during attacks in Iran, including victims from Lamerd.
Pezeshkian challenged what he described as double standards over nuclear weapons and international sanctions, saying: “The nuclear weapon is in Israel, but the inspectors are in Iran.”
His remarks came a day after Trump told the UN that Iran faced a choice between reaching a deal and being subjected to devastating military action. Trump said he could “drive them into hell” if Tehran refused to change course.
Despite the escalating rhetoric, US and Iranian officials also held talks in New York. Reports said the discussions lasted about three hours, underscoring the parallel diplomatic track between the two countries.
Pezeshkian concluded his address with a defiant message, saying Iran had been hit but had not “bent the knee.” CDA News Nigeria reports that the exchanges reflect the sharp divide between Washington and Tehran, even as both sides continue to leave room for negotiations.
