OWERRI, IMO STATE – The Imo State Police Command has arrested a married couple for alleged drug trafficking, recovering a large consignment of illicit substances from their residence.
The suspects, whose identities have been withheld pending investigation, were apprehended following a sting operation by operatives of the command’s anti-narcotics unit. According to police sources, the couple had been operating a drug distribution network in the Owerri metropolis and surrounding areas.
Items recovered include quantities of cannabis, methamphetamine, and other psychotropic substances, along with cash suspected to be proceeds from the illegal trade.
Police spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrest, stating that the couple is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
“This operation is part of our sustained effort to rid Imo State of drug trafficking and other criminal activities. We will not relent,” Okoye said.
The arrest has drawn attention to the growing involvement of couples and family units in drug trafficking networks. The state government has commended the police for the breakthrough and urged residents to support security agencies with useful information.
