Police Reject ₦100m Bribe, Foil Railway Vandalism Syndicate – PPRO

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force rejected a staggering ₦100 million bribe while foiling a major railway vandalism syndicate, recovering stolen materials valued at over ₦400 million .

The operation, carried out by the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), led to the arrest of two suspects—Chisom Goodnews, 32, and Ahmed Adamu, 22—on April 9, 2026, in Akwanga, Nasarawa State .

According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the suspects were intercepted while transporting a trailer truck carrying approximately 60 tonnes of vandalised railway tracks and sleepers . The materials were cleverly concealed under sacks of groundnut shells in a bid to evade detection while being transported from Bauchi State to Ilorin, Kwara State .

Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the truck was contracted for ₦2.5 million to transport the stolen materials, pointing to a well-orchestrated supply chain linked to receivers of such critical infrastructure .

ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, who led the operation, disclosed that the suspects offered the ₦100 million bribe in a desperate attempt to compromise the officers and secure their release. The offer was outrightly rejected .

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the operatives, stating their actions “exemplify the core values of the Force” and demonstrate courage, discipline, and incorruptibility .

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, including the intended receiver of the stolen materials in Ilorin .
